The Ohio Statewide Family Engagement Center is offering two exciting FREE online professional development opportunities for educators to learn more about support families. Did I mention they are free right now??
The first course, Partnering with Families to Support Early Literacy, is designed to help schools support early literacy skills inside the classroom and at home. The best news is it is OCCRRA approved! This self-paced course will strengthen your skills and help you to design literacy programs that can be supported at home. After taking this course I had a better knowledge of the foundations of early literacy and how to include parents in the learning. This course is ongoing until May, 2022. Partnering with Families to Support Early Literacy is a self-paced, online course for teachers from grades Pre-K through 3rd grade to build your knowledge and skills for enhancing literacy instruction through family engagement. This course is Ohio Approved through OCCRRA to meet Step Up to Quality requirements. The course is divided into three modules: Partnering with Families, Home-based Practices to Support Early Literacy, and Communicating with Families about Early Literacy. To maximize the learning experience, we encourage teachers to take the course at the same time as their colleagues. This will provide for discussion and application as a team. You may also participate in the course on your own, and individually commit to reflecting, sharing, and practicing the concepts presented in the course.
The second course, Foundations of Family Engagement, is designed to get every classroom started off right. It is a great blend of on your own learning and workshops. Foundations of Family Engagement is a course for early career teachers, counselors, and other school-based staff to build your knowledge and skills for effective family engagement. The course will be delivered in 3 learning blocks through a flipped instructional model. For each block, you will first individually complete an online module to build your background knowledge related to family engagement. Then, you will join a synchronous online workshop session to apply knowledge to your professional context. The process will repeat for the next two learning blocks. This course starts in January so register now!
